Mong ethnic cultural festival opens in Lai Chau province

VTV.vn - The third Mong Ethnic Cultural Festival 2021, officially opened in Lai Chau city, the mountainous province of the same name, on December 24.

The festival, themed ‘Preserving and promoting cultural identity of Mong ethnic group: Equality, Solidarity, Integration and Development’, was co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Lai Chau provincial People’s Committee.

The event aimed to honour the culture of the Mong ethnic minority group as well as the strength of the great national unity bloc.

This year’s festival drew the participation of nearly 3,000 guests, artisans, artists, actors, athletes and Mong people from 11 provinces, including Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Dien Bien, Dak Lak and Thanh Hoa.

In addition to traditional rituals, the third Mong Ethnic Minority Cultural Festival, features a wide variety of attractive cultural, sports and tourism activities, such as art programmes, shows of Mong people’s traditional costumes, a ‘giay’ (glutinous rice cake) making contest, the reproduction of traditional cultural rituals and festivals of Mong people and folk games.

On the occasion, Lai Chau province is organising many activities to promote the locality’s tourism, including the survey of community-based and eco-tourism in Lai Chau, a seminar to evaluate tourism products of the province and propose measures to overcome difficulties and improve tourism environments.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary of Party Central Committee and President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien asked the Party committees, authorities and people around the country in general and the Mong ethnic minority group in particularly to boost the preservation and promotion of national cultural identities.

He also emphasised the implementation of the Government’s Resolution No.128 on promulgating the regulations for safe and flexible adaptation and effective control of COVID-19 as well as the assurance of social security.

The third Mong Ethnic Minority Festival 2021 will last until December 26.
