The memorial site, covering an area of 2 hectares, is dedicated to soldiers and ancestors who have spent their lives building and protecting the Paracel Islands.
At the centre of the site is a monument called “Mother lighting the fire of remembrance and hope”. The 18-metre steel statue features an image of a mother lighting a fire to guide fishermen at sea and show them the way home.
