Many of the those present at the meeting were also at the battlefields of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces during the uprising. Launched on January 30th, 1968, the Tet Offensive, also known as the Mau Than General Offensive, was one of the largest campaigns of Northern Vietnamese forces against the US-backed southern regime. It was considered a turning point in the two-decade-long American War in Vietnam. The battlefields in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces were considered some of the most successful uprisings in what was known then as South Vietnam.
