Jain, who has more than two decades of experience in financial services across Asia and the Middle East, will oversee Mastercard’s strategy and operations in the three markets. His mandate includes deepening partnerships with governments, banks, fintechs and merchants, while expanding secure and innovative digital payment solutions.
Mastercard Appoints Sharad Jain to Lead Operations in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
The appointment comes as Vietnam accelerates its digital transformation. According to Mastercard’s latest New Payments Index, 94% of Vietnamese consumers used at least one form of emerging digital payment in the past year, surpassing the global average by seven percentage points. This trend highlights both the appetite for new payment technologies and the opportunities for further expansion.
"Sharad’s strategic mindset, regional expertise and deep understanding of payments and banking make him well suited to drive Mastercard’s growth in these markets," said Safdar Khan, Division President for Southeast Asia at Mastercard.
Jain most recently served as Vice President of Regional Account Management for Southeast Asia at Mastercard, based in Singapore. He succeeds Winnie Wong, who led the company’s operations in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for six years before taking on the role of Country Manager for Thailand and Myanmar.
Commenting on his new role, Jain said: "Vietnam is one of the most dynamic economies in the region, with a strong appetite for innovation. The opportunity to leverage technology to build a secure, interoperable and inclusive digital ecosystem is immense, and I look forward to working with partners and stakeholders to advance that vision."
