Forty policy recommendations made by five technical working groups of the Vietnam Energy Partnership Group were introduced at the 3rd High-Level Meeting of theVietnam Energy Partnership Group (VEPG) held in Hanoi on December 10.
The event was jointly held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam, and the World Bank Vietnam.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An, the building of an appropriate, feasible and sustainable energy development strategy in accordance with the actual current situation of Vietnam has become a crucial task.
He noted that the energy sector plays a particularly important role in the development of the economy as well as the well-being of the Vietnamese people. Thus, it is necessary to develop a strong and visionary strategy to support the transition of Vietnam into a modern, green and comprehensive economy.
He also acknowledged the report and recommendations from the VEPG for Vietnam’s energy sector while asking VEPG to expand its study on other areas such as oil and gas and coal which are also major energy sources in Vietnam.
“The European Union keeps its commitment to supporting Vietnam in its transition from brown energy to green energy while ensuring affordable access to energyfor everyone and protecting the competitiveness of Vietnam,” Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam Giorgio Aliberti said.
Ousmane Dione, Country Director for the World Bank in Vietnam said that the success of the energy sector is an important contribution to the socio-economic development of Vietnam and the energy sector needs to enter a new phase of growth.
