Flight JT-610 was on a scheduled flight to the city of Pangkal Pinang off the island of Sumatra. The plane, a Boeing 737 Max 8 model, lost contact with air-traffic officials at around 6:30 am local time, 13 minutes after take-off. The Flightradar 24 website tracked the plane, showing the flight path ended abruptly over the Java Sea.
It is unclear if there are any survivors. A search and rescue operation is underway. Debris thought to be from the plane, including aircraft seats and parts of the aircraft fuselage, was found near an offshore refining facility.
