The Politburo’s decision was announced at a ceremony on May 20 in the presence of Head of the Central Commission for Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia.
Minh will replace Thuan Huu, who has been in charge of the Party’s central organ since 2011.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nghia extended his congratulations to the new Nhan Dan leader while expressing his belief that, with his considerable experience, Minh and the Nhan Dan staff will uphold the newspaper’s tradition, deserving of its position as a leading press agency and the political and ideological banner of the Party.
He also spoke highly of the contributions to the newspaper and the Vietnamese press in general by former Editor-in-chief Thuan Huu, who has been working at Nhan Dan for more than 40 years.
In assuming the new role, Minh thanked the Party and State for placing confidence in him, the generations of VNA leaders for their guidance, and the Nhan Dan staff for their warm welcome.
He expressed his desire to receive the support of Nhan Dan’s editorial board members, reporters, editors and workers such that he can build on the recorded achievements, fulfil the duty assigned by the Party and State, and make further contributions to Nhan Dan’s longstanding tradition.
Le Quoc Minh, who was born in 1969 in the central province of Nghe An, began his journalistic career as a world news editor at the VNA in 1990.
In 1996, he was dispatched to Japan to work as a specialist in humanities and Vietnamese language at the Japanese broadcaster NHK’s Vietnamese service.
Minh returned to Vietnam in 2000 and continued working at the VNA, having held various positions at the agency since then, including the roles of Editor-in-chief of the VietnamPlus online newspaper and the agency’s Deputy General Director.
On January 31, 2021, he was elected a member of the Party Central Committee for the 2021-2026 tenure at the 13th National Party Congress.
