Hope-Sowing Journey to Sen village
On an early winter morning, the Kindness Bus arrived in Kim Lien Commune after a 350-kilometre journey in light rain. On board were five underprivileged students, the “little flowers” of Nghe An, who continue to excel academically despite their challenging circumstances.
The journey was particularly meaningful for Tong Thi Anh Thu, a fifth-grade student who has experienced great hardship in her life. Her father passed away suddenly, and her mother works far from home to afford treatment for kidney stones. Thu lives with her elderly grandparents. Although she often wears a look of sorrow, she has been an outstanding student for four consecutive years and is always loving and obedient.
Touched by her quiet perseverance, the Kindness Bus awarded Thu and the other students scholarships and new bicycles. These gifts were not only material support, but also a source of emotional encouragement, helping the children walk steadily on their path toward knowledge and reminding them that they are never alone, even in hardship.
A home full of love for children without a family
The second stop was the small house of Mr. Vo Duc Duan and his wife in Vinh Hung, Nghe An province. After 11 years of trying unsuccessfully to have children of their own, they opened their home to orphans and simply named it: “A Home for Children”.
Many children have stayed with them over the past nine years. Some stayed for just a few days, some for years. Some were eventually reunited with their biological families, while others still remain. None were ever called “adopted children”, all were cherished as their own.
Mr Duan's wife is a secondary school teacher who works 150 kilometers away. While she is away, Mr. Duan acts as a full-time father, preparing milk, changing diapers, lulling children to sleep, and taking them for walks around the neighborhood. Beneath the tough exterior of a martial arts instructor lies the gentle heart of a man devoted father.
“Meeting these children is our greatest happiness, the greatest gift that life has given us. Nothing material can compare”, Mr. Duan shared.
Inspired by this couple’s devotion, the Kindness Bus donated new bicycles, first-aid kits, blankets, pillows, and mattresses, helping make the small house warmer as winter approaches.
