Without cash scholarships or short-term gifts, the Tan Yen Commune Women’s Union conceived and established the “Study Promotion Chicken Flock” initiative as a way to foster lasting hope through labor and perseverance, shared by each family and each child.
On this journey, Kindness Bus stops at an old, modest, single-storey house in Ha Hamlet, Tan Yen Commune, which is home to Vu Thi Duyen, and her maternal grandparents. The faded walls are cracked with age, and daylight barely filters in through the loose wooden window frame.
Duyen has lived with her grandparents since she was three years old, when her parents separated. Her grandfather suffers from a thyroid tumor and is unable to do heavy labor. Her grandmother, now in her fifties, has become the family’s sole breadwinner, working on the farm while caring for her granddaughter. Despite these hardships, Duyen has consistently excelled in her studies, earning top-student honors from Grade 1 through Grade 6. At home, she helps her grandmother with cleaning, cooking, and household chores.
With the companionship of THACO - Truong Hai Group, Kindness Bus, together with members of the Women’s Union, donated 300 healthy, carefully selected chicks to 10 disadvantaged children in the commune, including Duyen.
For families like Duyen’s, the flock of chicks represents more than just a means of livelihood. It represents hope their children can continue to attend school, that their worn sandals will carry them forward, and that their children's dream of learning will have more time to grow.
