Japanese organisation provides aid to develop organic agriculture in Dong Thap

VTV.vn - Japanese non-profit organisation Seed to Table will provide aid worth US$55,000 to develop organic agriculture in the 2019-2022 period in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.

The project will be implemented in nine communes across the six districts of Hong Ngu, Thanh Binh, Cao Lanh, Lap Vo, Chau Thanh and Cao Lanh city, as well as in 12 schools in the province. Earlier, Seed to Table poured aid in to implement a similar project in Ben Tre province.

According to Chief Representative of Seed to Table, Ino Mayu, the project will provide local farmers with knowledge related to how to apply organic agricultural production, increase the value of their agricultural products, and improve their access to the market.

In addition, teachers and students at the 12 selected schools will be equipped with knowledge on organic farming in order to raise their awareness of protecting both the local ecosystem and the environment.

Vo Thanh Ngoan, Deputy Director of the Dong Thap provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that agriculture plays an important role in local socio-economic development as it has helped to ensure food security, create jobs, and generate income for 70% of the provincial population.

He stressed that a change in agricultural production practices towards organic farming is necessary to develop sustainable agriculture in the province.
