Born and raised in Milan, Italy, Piero planned this unique and ambitious trip to travel from Italy to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam with his friend. Piero successfully conquered the 40,000 km road on just his motorbike.
"After reading the book "Vespa travel - from Rome to Saigon" by Giorgio Bettinelli, which was published 25 years ago, I thought of going on the same journey that was described in the book. I wanted to see how the roads and countries mentioned in the book had changed after 25 years", said Piero Porro.
Piero started his journey in August 2016 and has now spent 10 months on this trip, one that has been chock full of fascinating and exciting adventures but one that has also been scary, dangerous and gruelling. A friend accompanied Piero to India but ever since then, he's been travelling on his own. And the difficulties have never held him back from completing his journey.
Piero Porro added: There are moments that I felt like I had no energy left. But I told myself not to stop and to try my best to overcome all these challenges. The moment I arrived in Vietnam, I burst into tears because I was so happy.
This once in a lifetime journey has taken him through more than 20 countries and has given him a chance to experience new cultures and make new friends. Piero is currently wrapping up his trip, and is back on the road, heading from Hanoi to HCMC.
