International science event hosted

VTV.vn - The 11th scientific conference held under the Meeting Vietnam moniker officially kicked off on July 20th in the southern central coastal city of Quy Nhơn in Bình Định Province.

The annual scientific event hosts leading international physicists and astronomers to share their latest research. This year’s event is on Planetary Systems: A synergistic view and has attracted specialists who study the Solar System.

Pluto is just one among many bodies and objects in the Kuiper Belt. The belt, discovered by astronomers David Jewitt and Lưu Lệ Hằng from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) earned the two scientists the Kavli and Shaw Prizes in 2012, which are seen as Nobel prizes in astronomy. During this current conference, professor Lưu Lệ Hằng will deliver a speech on the development of science.

Prof. Luu Le Hang, Astronomer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology said: "I’ll speak at this year’s event. Then I’ll deliver speeches in Huế and Hanoi in the next few days. I hope my lectures will attract many young people".

The 11th Meeting Vietnam is proving an attractive event for well known scientists and this year’s attendees include 2 Nobel Prize winning physicists. The event is also seen as a science festival that connects scientists in Vietnam and the world.

Prof. Tran Thanh Van. Chairman, Meeting Vietnam Association said: "I hope that this event will connect Vietnamese scientists to scientific activities internationally. And the participation of Professor Luu Le Hang will attract many youngsters and encourage them to follow in her steps".

This year’s event will feature scientific workshops nationwide and run until July 25th.
