On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR) 2017, the Government of Vietnam has taken steps to address disaster threats by introducing new legislative documents, strengthening disaster preparedness and response capacity, as well as establishing a community-based national risk management program.
This program aims to support 6,000 communes (approximately 50% of all communes nationwide) by 2020. In order to celebrate IDDR 2017, the Viet Nam Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Central Committee for Natural Disaster Control and Prevention and the National Committee for Search and Rescue, organised a meeting today on Disaster Risk Reduction in the city of Vinh, in Nghe An province.
