The event was attended by leaders from ministries, sectors, and import-export businesses in Vietnam as well as international organisations such as the International Coffee Organisation (ICO), the Colombian Coffee Federation, and the Indonesian Coffee Association (AEKI), and significant coffee import and export corporations and enterprises from around the world.
According to the VICOFA, Vietnam exported 1.7 million tonnes of coffee in 2022, worth more than 3.9 billion USD, contributing to the total export turnover of the country's agricultural, forestry, and fishery products.
However, there are still many obstacles that the industry must overcome in the future.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that in order to develop the coffee industry, in recent time the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has advised to build and implement a policy package to support coffee development, and implement programmes and projects to develop sustainable coffee production. In addition, the diligence and creativity of farmers and the dynamism of coffee processing and consumption enterprises have contributed to raising Vietnam as the world's leading coffee producer.
For sustainable development of the coffee industry, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien suggested that localities and businesses should review the size and area of coffee production; select and breed high-quality coffee to promote the development of the coffee industry; promote Vietnamese coffee brands to markets around the world; and promote digital transformation in coffee production and processing.
At the conference, the delegates also held many discussions on the export prospects, opportunities and challenges for Vietnam's coffee industry.
