The bombing occurred near the Huay Pling police station and a special unit of border patrol police in Thepa district. An explosive ordnance disposal team inspected the site and found the bomb weighing about 50 kg. The explosion was heard 10km away and destroyed a transformer, causing a blackout in a wide area.
The vehicle owner, 62, was killed last night in Saba Yoi district. His vehicle was stolen and used by assailants for the car bomb attack. The police believed the attack is done by an insurgent group, active in the area.
