Industrial production index increases by 5.4 percent in February

VTV.vn - Vietnam’s industrial production index (IPI) in February rose by 5.4 percent year-on-year, as reported by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on February 28.

This month’s IPI decreased by 12.4 percent compared to January 2022 and increased by 8.5 percent over the same period in 2021.

Compared to the same period last year, the mining industry decreased by 4.1 percent; processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10%; electricity production and distribution increased by 8 percent; and water supply, management and treatment of waste and wastewater increased by 0.8 percent.

In the first 2 months of 2022, IIP increased by 5.4 percent over the same period in 2021, in which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 6.1 percent, contributing 5.2 percentage points to the industrial sector’s overall growth.

The whole country saw the establishment of around 20,300 new enterprises in the first two months of this year, with total registered capital of over 277.6 trillion VND (over 12.16 billion USD), up 11.9 percent in the number of enterprises and down 17.1 percent in terms of registered capital compared to the same period last year.

The number of businesses returning to operation increased 46.2 percent while the number of businesses withdrawing from the market rose 33.6% over the same period in 2021.
