Increasing work efficiency and safety against COVID-19

Along with boosting vaccinations against COVID-19, localities have stepped up various solutions to ensure work efficiency while following disease prevention measures in order to realise the “dual goals” of economic development and controlling the epi

On the afternoon of May 26, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province had a meeting with local enterprises to decide on a policy allowing local workers to both work and live at their factories, starting from 0:00 on June 2.

Accordingly, only those with negative RT-PCR test results within 72 hours are allowed to work at the factory. Along with that, they must commit to staying at the factory, not to go out without the consent of the Management Board of Bac Ninh Industrial Parks or other supervisory agencies. Periodically every week, the enterprise will test at least 10% of the employees staying at the factory. On the enterprise side, temporary accommodation will be arranged for workers in the factory on the basis of ensuring security and order, personal hygiene, and other conditions to serve workers.

Bac Ninh authorities will install surveillance cameras at the entrance to the factory to monitor the above activities. The province also requires that workers to stay at the workplace for at least 15 days during the first phase. When returning home, they must practice self-isolation.

Also on May 26, Bac Ninh authorities decided to establish two more hospitals that together are capable of accommodating 700 beds to treat infected people.

One of the two is to be placed at the health centre of Thuan Thanh district, offering 200 beds. The other (with 500 beds) is to be located at the lung hospital and the hospital for traditional medicine and rehabilitation in Bac Ninh city – the province’s capital.

Earlier, Bac Ninh established two similar hospitals at the medical centres of Tien Du and Gia Binh districts with a capacity of 300 beds each.

From noon on May 26, the People's Committee of Bac Giang province implemented a medical isolation order on the wo districts of Hiep Hoa and Yen The, which requires all local residents to stay at home, only going out in cases of absolute necessity.

Up to now, Bac Giang has had six out of its 10 district-level sub-divisions set up for medical isolation.

The Big C Thang Long supermarket in Hanoi reopened on May 26 after being temporarily shut down for disinfection. All close contacts (F1s) of the COVID-19 patients (F0s) there have had negative test results. In the past few days, the unit has thoroughly traced and isolated all close contact cases with the F0 and disinfected the entire supermarket.

On May 26, on behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Standing Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Hai signed a document requesting the Prime Minister officially direct the addition of workers at enterprises to the list of priority groups for early vaccination against COVID-19 to protect the health of employees and minimise the risk of outbreaks in enterprises and industrial parks. The document also recommended the Prime Minister adopt a policy allowing the use of funds to support employees affected by the current wave COVID-19 infections.

The Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) has supported over VND6 billion to help localities prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic, in which, Bac Giang province receiving VND3 billion, Bac Ninh VND2 billion and Da Nang city VND1 billion. Bac Ninh Petroleum Branch has donated VND20 million to Thuan Thanh District Health Centre and VND30 million to the Provincial Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

On the afternoon of May 26, Ha Nam Province's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control organised a reception to receive support from local businesses to support epidemic prevention and control in the province. The total amount donated at the event was VND3.3 billion.

On the same day, in Lang Son province, the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development - Lang Son branch (Agribank Lang Son) handed over 4, 800 COVID-19 test kits worth VND1 billion to Lang Son province.

Also on May 26, Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Dang Van Minh signed a decision allocating a budget of nearly VND23 billion for the local Department of Health to buy vaccines and other supplies to implement the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the province in 2021.

On the same day, Quang Ngai province requested the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and provincial industrial parks and business owners in the province strictly follow regulations on epidemic prevention and control, self-assess the level of safety and update information to the COVID-19 safety map.

On the afternoon of May 26, representatives of the Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) Vietnam and Rang Dong Long An Plastic Joint Stock Company donated VND1 billion and 300 raincoats to the "COVID-19 prevention and control fund" in Ho Chi Minh City.
