Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung made the statement on Tuesday at a meeting to evaluate the implementation of the directive on the prevention of illegal fishing. The Deputy PM requested amendments and additions to the law in the direction of increasing sanctions against boat owners as well as the responsibility of local authorities. In addition, maritime law enforcement forces should increase patrols and control of fishing grounds in Vietnam's EEZ and sovereign waters. Long-term communications will convey to fishermen the harmful effect of illegal behaviour.
