Humanitarian month supports more than 562,000 people

VTV.vn - The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRSC)’s Humanitarian Month 2020 provided support for more than 562,000 disadvantaged people nationwide through various activities with a total funding of over VND434 billion as of May 31.

Themed ‘Working Together for Community Health’, the drive took place from May 1 to 31 with major activities including the organisation of the ‘Humanitarian Market’ model, communication campaigns on COVID-19 preventative measures and blood donation events,

Activities were also held to help needy people and those affected by drought and saline intrusion.

Accordingly, a total of 350 charity markets were organised in 59 cities and provinces nationwide with 100,000 free goods exchange coupons being provided to marketgoers with more than 730 social houses and 344 humanitarian project such as schools, roads and bridges being constructed during the month.

The VRSC's chapters across the country also hosted over 10,800 anti-COVID 19 communication events to popularise information to 1.8 million people, and handed out 87,900 leaflets, over 4 million face masks, around 646,000 bars of soap and bottles of hand sanitisers to local residents.

The month is the third of its kind to be held by the VRCS with the aim of promoting humanitarian values, encouraging people to do good deeds and calling for practical actions from people from all walks of life to support disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the community.
