VTV.vn - The first three cars of Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line, Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien, have arrived at Khanh Hoi Port eight days after leaving Japan, where they were manufactured by Hitachi.

The cars, transported to Vietnam aboard the cargo vessel Bayani, were unloaded on October 8.

A total of 51 cars for 17 trains will be manufactured for the city’s first metro line, also known as Line 1. Each three-car train is 61.5 metres long and can accommodate 930 passengers.

After being unloaded from the ship, the cars will be transported by truck over the next few days along a 26 kilometre route to the Long Binh Depot in District 9.

According to Ho Chi Minh City’s Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), the seats are painted blue in line with the train’s exterior design.

Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line will consist of 14 stations along 19.7 kilometres, including a 2.6-kilometre underground section and 17.1 kilometres of elevated tracks.

It is expected to enter service by the end of next year.
