The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on March 30 to honour Ho Chi Minh City as being recognised by UNESCO as a member of the Global Network of Learning Cities.
Speaking at the honouring ceremony, Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the city highly appreciates becoming an official member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
The UNESCO's recognition contributes to creating an open learning environment, where each citizen can develop the skills and knowledge necessary to adapt and develop in the digital world. This is an important step forward, affirming the city's commitment to lifelong learning and sustainable development.
According to Nguyen Thi Le, as a member of the GNLC, Ho Chi Minh City will make tireless efforts to ensure that all people have the opportunity to learn and develop. The city commits to continue working closely with other members of the GNLC to share experiences, learn and build better learning environments for all.
At the honouring ceremony, Ho Chi Minh City launched the implementation of the Action Programme to build a "UNESCO Global Learning City for the period 2024 - 2030" in the city.
Accordingly, the city promotes the combined strength of the entire political system in supporting and mobilizing resources, to promote lifelong learning opportunities for people living in the city.
