VTV.vn - Ho Chi Minh City has given additional 920,329 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to its local residents during the city’s fifth inoculation campaign, which was launched on July 22 with a target of administering 930,000 doses within 10 days.

This was announced by Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc at a meeting on August 3, held to update the nation on the city’s COVID-19 prevention and control situation.

He reported that the city has requested the Government and the Ministry of Health supply an additional 5 – 5,5 million more COVID-19 vaccine doses to carry out the sixth phase of its COVID-19 vaccination drive, scheduled to run throughout the month of August.

He also said that the city’s health sector has moblised all its available resources and coordinated with functional agencies for this phase.

The city’s health sector has added 200 injection teams to increase its total number to 1,200, aiming to administer a total of 300,000 jabs of COVID-19 vaccine per day.

* The Ministry of Health has decided to set up a hospital providing treatment for COVID-19 patients in Hanoi and the northern localities. Operated under the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, the hospital is located in Yen So ward, Hoang Mai district with a capacity of 500 beds.

To be inaugurated in mid-August, it will serve as a national COVID-19 intensive care unit (ICU) and will provide treatment for severely ill patients and technical support for other regional COVID-19 medical facilities.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is working to set up ICUs at the second facilities of the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital and the Bach Mai Hospital in Ha Nam province.

* The southeastern province of Binh Phuoc has recorded no new Covid-19 infections in the community over the past three days, according to the provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The encouraging results came from the drastic measures of the local authorities as well as the joint efforts of the local people in curbing the pandemic spread since the province recorded its first COVID-19 case on June 30.

The province has also been actively applying social distancing policies following Prime Minister’s Directives 15 and 16 in pandemic-hit areas in order to seal off affected areas and suppress the outbreak.

* The Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control in the southern province of Binh Duong on August 3 launched two COVID-19 treatment areas with a total capacity of 8,300 beds.

Accordingly, the Thoi Hoa COVID-19 treatment area of the Binh Duong COVID-19 treatment hospital No.1 in Ben Cat town has 5,300 beds, with 2,200 of them equipped with fixed oxygen ventilators.

Meanwhile, the 3,000-bed hospital at the Vietnam-Germany University in Ben Cat town has seen investment from the Binh Duong Project Management and Investment Co., Ltd.

As of 6am on August 3, Binh Duong had recorded 18,326 COVID-19 infections, including 1,792 recoveries and 94 deaths.
