VTV.vn - Ho Chi Minh City began vaccinating children aged between 5 and under 12 against the COVID-19 on April 16.

At the vaccination site at Hong Bang Secondary School in district 5, a total of 109 students received the first shot of the vaccine this morning. Proper measures were adopted to ensure safety for children and monitor the children’s health after the vaccination.

On the morning of April 16, around 300,000 sixth graders at schools throughout the city were vaccinated. The vaccination campaign for children in the age group citywide will then start on April 18.

According to Nguyen Hong Tam, deputy director of the municipal Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, around 898,500 children aged 5-11 in the southern city will be administered under the campaign.

He also reported that in the first phase of the campaign, Ho Chi Minh City has been distributed 87,500 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

In Hanoi, a vaccination plan for children in the age group of five to below 12 was promulgated on April 16, targeting the administration of COVID-19 vaccines among over 95 percent of children in the age group throughout the city. There are currently around a million children in that age range in Hanoi.

Under the plan, which was devised by the municipal Health Department in coordination with the municipal Education and Training, vaccinations will be prioritised from the eldest in the age group to the lowest.
