In his opening remarks, Bac Lieu Chairman Duong Thanh Trung said that the Mekong Delta region has huge potential for tourism but the industry has yet to develop, as seen in the lack of high-quality tourism products and the broad similarity between the offerings of regional provinces.
The conference offered an opportunity for tourism authorities and businesses to discuss the measures aimed at deepening cooperation between the localities so as to fully tap into the potentials of each locality and the region as a whole.
According to HCMC Vice Chairman Tran Vinh Tuyen, the cooperation contents include sharing information on tourism development, developing tourism products, promoting tourism, developing the tourism workforce, and calling for investment.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Quang Tung stated that such cooperation will further bolster the development of tourism in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City.
Concluding the conference, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan requested that the localities align their tourism development plans with the national strategy, adding that Ho Chi Minh City can act as a training place for tourism staff in Mekong Delta provinces.
