At the signing ceremony in HCM City, Deputy Mayor of Toronto Denzil Minnan Wong said the cooperation agreement will create a legal basis and a momentum for the two cities to reinforce relations in multiple spheres, especially between their administrations.
HCM City and Toronto boast numerous cooperation opportunities, particularly in sharing urban development experience, as both are economic hubs of their respective countries, developing smart cities and also facing development challenges such as traffic congestion, he added.
Prior to the singing, the Toronto official had a meeting with Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen, who highlighted the strengthened Vietnam-Canada cooperation and friendship within the framework of their comprehensive, stable and long-term partnership.
Tuyen said the two countries have exchanged many Party and State delegations, tightened economic-trade links and signed bilateral agreements, which have created a foundation for intensifying friendship and cooperation between the countries as well as between the two cities.
Over the past years, HCM City has actively implemented cooperation activities with Canada, including Toronto, especially in investment and education such as the Canadian International School and the Vietnam Airlines Flight Training Centre.
The local official noted his city wants Toronto to step up friendship and cooperation in the fields that match HCM City’s interest and Toronto’s potential such as smart city building, education, and technology.
