VTV.vn - Ho Chi Minh City plans to have a paper-free administration, digitising all documents in Government offices to streamline administrative procedures and reduce costs, a top leader has said.

Tran Vinh Tuyen, Deputy Chairman of the city People’s Committee, said “The use of e-documents in the near future is appropriate for online public services.”

It would also facilitate the introduction of e-governance, he told a conference on October 12.

He instructed districts to expand their online services to serve the public faster and more efficiently.

The use of IT at State administrative agencies is crucial to simplifying procedures and developing Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city, he said.

Since last July the People’s Committee has been sending invitations and documents for government meetings via SMS and e-mail.

Vo Sy, Deputy Head of the People’s Committee Office, said more than VND180 million (US$8,000) has been saved in administrative costs in two months since printed letters were stopped.

It would save more than VND1 billion (US$44,800) every year, he added.
