The delegation of Hanoi’s National Assembly (NA) deputies have made great efforts to reform their operational methods and enhance their coordination with NA bodies and local agencies, thus contributing positively to the legislature’s operations.

The aforementioned statement was made at a conference reviewing the delegation’s operations in the 14th tenure (2016-2021) on March 18. The event was presided over by Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue.

As reported at the conference, during the 2016-2021 term, the capital’s NA deputies organised 11 supervisory teams, while participating in 32 others deployed by the NA Standing Committee (NASC), the NA’s Council for Ethnic Affairs, and NA committees. They also held 66 conferences, contributing ideas to draft laws submitted to the NA for approval, together with many seminars to discuss important draft laws as planned by the NASC, thereby collecting many comments with scientific and practical bases whilst also gathering reference materials and documents for the city’s NA deputies, helping them research and contribute to law building at the NA’s sessions.

In addition, voter-meeting activity during the term was renovated by Hanoi’s lawmakers in a more substantive manner with 543 meetings, including more than 200 at commune, ward and grassroots levels.

Speaking at the event, Politburo member Hue, who heads the city’s NA deputy delegation, stated that 2021 marks the first year the city is attempting to bring the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and that adopted at the 17th congress of the municipal Party Committee to life in the fastest and most effective fashion, towards the goal of rapidly and sustainably developing Hanoi into a green, smart, modern and highly competitive city in both the country and the region.

He recommended that in the upcoming NA tenure, Hanoi’s lawmakers continue to make worthy contributions to the development and improvement of the Party’s renewal policy and guidelines, as well as paying adequate attention to grasping the vivid practical issues of the city’s socio-economic life, and gathering the wisdom of local people to contribute to the NA in the process of building and perfecting the legal system as well as deciding the major policies within the legislature’s jurisdiction.

With their rights and obligations as prescribed by law, NA deputies should actively support the city in removing difficulties and obstacles and creating favourable conditions for the city’s rapid and sustainable development, Hue said, asking them to back the pilot of the urban administration model in the city as well as synchronously implement and promote the Law on the Capital in the new situation.

To perform their supreme supervisory function in the law enforcement process well, he asked the city’s NA deputies to build on experience and address any shortcomings in the previous term, improve their operational efficiency, and work closely with the municipal People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front Committee, as well as mass organisations in the implementation of their supervisory tasks.
