Under a decision dated July 24, unused apartment buildings in resettlement areas will be converted into field hospitals for COVID-19 treatment and isolation.
The city will use resettlement areas in Hoang Mai, Tay Ho, Long Bien, Bac Tu Liem, Cau Giay, and Dong Anh districts for the project.
Hanoi has begun implementing social distancing measures for 15 days from July 24 in an effort to slow the spread of the virus in the community.
The city has recorded tens of new coronavirus cases on a daily basis during the past few days, with many infections detected through test screening.
It is actively screening community cases showing flu-like symptoms such as a cough and fever, as well as randomly sampling bus drivers and their assistants for test to assess infection risks locally.
According to the Ministry of Health, the city has confirmed 699 COVID-19 cases, excluding 200 cases detected at two centrally-run hospitals in the locality since the resurgence of the virus in late April.
Of the total, 427 cases were documented in the community and the remainder in quarantine or lockdown areas.
