All bars, karaoke venues, and discotheques in Hanoi have been ordered to close since Sunday afternoon and residents have been advised to avoid 'non-essential' gatherings from February 1 as measures to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Residents must limit crowded gatherings when not necessary. To date, Hanoi has recorded 19 Covid-19 positive cases across several districts.

Of which, more than half are from Nam Tu Liem district and most are related to the outbreak in Hai Duong province. In total, the city has collected nearly 15,000 samples. A new directive to upgrade the city's epidemic prevention level is expected to be implemented today.

The city authorities have emphasized that people should limit organizing festive activities amid the latest outbreak that has aroused concerns that it is a rapidly spreading variant of the novel coronavirus.
