The campaign continues the city's target towards planting 1 million trees in the capital city by 2020. The campaign kicked off in Phu Thuong Ward, Tay Ho District, Hanoi. Speaking at the event was the secretary of the city's party committee Hoang Trung Hai in which he stated that there needs to be more effort in making the city greener, ensuring a balanced ecosystem. In order to work towards the 2020 goal, the secretary calls for the concerted effort and participation of all levels of administration from the city to district and ward planting trees in public spaces including but not limited to streets, traffic islands, office surrounding spaces, residential areas and schools. The target of planting 1 million trees in the capital city was originally launched back in June 2016. Since then, Hanoi has planted 60,000 new trees.
