This was announced in the latest survey on Hanoi’s traffic situation by the United Nation's Road Safety Collaboration.
The capital’s streets and roads are frequented by more than five million motorbikes in fierce competition with half a million cars. The situation is forecast to get worse in years to come as it is estimated that some 11 million motorbikes will flood the capital by 2025.
In December last year, the Hanoi municipal People’s Council approved a resolution on a target programme to reduce traffic jams. It is estimated that the programme will cost Hanoi nearly 2.2 trillion VND (99 million USD).
