Within the group of honourees are Associate Professor Nguyen Thua Hy, who has devoted his life to researching the history and culture of Hanoi, and Le Thi Hoa, a primary school teacher who has held classes for children with disabilities for the past 26 years.
Others include Nghiem Thi Phuong Chi, a dedicated statistics worker, and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hien, a cleaning worker who has overcome her difficulties to perform her duties effectively for 30 years.
Speaking at the conference, Hanoi Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung stated that Hanoi’s achievements have been brought about by the hard work, creativity and solidarity of its citizens.
He added that besides those honoured, there remain numerous good deeds deserving of praise being performed silently by other citizens who have made contributions to the city’s development.
The Hanoi mayor took the occasion to launch an emulation campaign entitled “Good People, Good Deeds”, aiming to mobilise resources to realise the socio-economic targets in 2019 and 2020.
