VTV.vn - Hanoi’s agriculture sector is focusing on building a stable market and demand-based production, developing value chains, and using digital technology in transactions to ensure sustainable growth.

According to Nguyen Xuan Dai, Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the sector has successfully established a steady market and embraced digital technology to facilitate trade. The market plays a crucial role in determining the value of agricultural products, and that’s why production must align with market demands, he said

Despite challenges, the capital city's agriculture aims to overfulfill its growth target of over 3%. Following the flooding in July, the sector is working with localities to recover affected crops and fisheries, focusing on fast-growing and short-cycle vegetables to mitigate risks from future floods.

The city is also enhancing value-added products such as processed foods, and working with the Department of Industry and Trade to organise trade fairs and develop e-commerce platforms for agricultural products. In Thanh Oai district, efforts are underway to promote local agricultural products through trade fairs and e-commerce.

The district is also providing training for producers, cooperatives, and businesses to access digital platforms. Plans are in place to hold agricultural product fairs in November and December 2024, with a focus on OCOP (One Commune One Product) items.

Meanwhile, Thuong Tin district is preparing for potential storms and floods by adjusting planting schedules and prioritising short-cycle crops like vegetables and ornamental plants.

Livestock health is also being monitored to ensure stability in the supply chain. To meet the rising demand for pork towards the end of the year, Dong Tam Livestock Cooperative in Quoc Oai district has increased production, supplying 13 to 15 tonnes of organic meat and processed products like sausages and rolls each month.

The cooperative is also working on improving its digital presence to enhance market reach.Overall, Hanoi's focus on producing market-driven agricultural products has helped the sector maintain stable and sustainable growth. In the first half of 2024, the total value of its agricultural, forestry, and fishery production reached nearly 22.7 trillion VND (917 million USD), up 2.94% compared to the same period last year.

Agricultural production alone accounted for nearly 21 trillion VND, a 2.92% increase year-on-year while seafood reached roundly 1.7 trillion VND, up 3.33% compared to the same period last year.
