Seventy years ago, Hanoi celebrated with vibrant flags and flowers as victorious troops returned to take over the capitaland prepare for a new era: building socialism in the capital and the North while supporting the southern frontlines. The marks of change from that period have become a proud memory and part of the heritage of this thousand-year-old capital.
Episode 2, titled "A Time of Bombs, A Time of Peace", brings together Hanoi lovers to reminisce about their memories and experiences of how the beloved capital rose from hardship. It reflects the love of everyone who was born, grew up, or even set foot in this land just once. Hanoi's beauty lies not only in its historic structures, familiar streets, and ancient trees but also in the small details: the street vendors, roadside tea stalls, and street food.
Editor editor Phi Linh is joined on on this journey is journalist Truong Anh Ngoc. Together, they will "turn back the clock" to explore Hanoi’s iconic places and treasured artifacts. Sharing in the program, host Phi Linh said, "We took inspiration from A Time of Bombs, A Time of Peace, a song composed by musician Hoang Hiep in 1984 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation, to name this episode. The program will showcase different aspects of Hanoi, reminding us of things that were once close to its residents, such as the clanging of early morning trams, the Thong Nhat bicycles, and the Hanoi Tobacco Factory".
This episode, with the theme “A Time of Bombs, A Time of Peace”, also serves as a reminder that Hanoi does not easily embrace the new while forgetting the old.
