Hand- foot- and mouth disease cases increase

VTV.vn - Hand-foot-and-mouth disease, or HFMD, cases have appeared in all 63 cities and provinces in Vietnam. To date, over 53,000 cases have been reported nationwide.

HFMD is caused by virus EV71. Six children have died and the number of cases at hospitals is rising. In the South and some central provinces, the number of patients in critical condition increased dramatically.

Children's Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh City, receives nearly 200 patients daily. Heavy cases accounted for about 20% and included serious complications such as heart and kidney failure. According to the survey, the rate of children with diseases caused by EV71 this year virus is very high.
