The construction of the Hai Van 2 tunnel was complicated due to its geographical and geological conditions. Connecting Da Nang with Thua Thien Hue province, construction on the tunnel began in April 2016 in two phases.
Hai Van 2 Tunnel is part of the Deo Ca tunnel construction project. It was backed by the Deo Ca Group Stock Company. It spans 6.2 km (with 2 lanes and 7 meters wide), making it the longest road tunnel in Southeast Asia.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said the project is meaningful to the central key economic zone, helping link to the East-West Economic Corridor.
Ho Minh Hoang, chairman of Deo Ca Group, the parent company of Deo Ca Investment JSC, said the Hai Van 2 Tunnel faced certain technical difficulties.
During the project’s execution, the investor adopted technical and technological solutions to ensure traffic safety on the Hai Van 1 Tunnel, which was opened to traffic in 2005.
