The Ministry of Health has provided guidelines to localities on COVID-19 vaccination as part of efforts to allow students to return to school, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen said at a press conference.

The Ministry of Health has provided guidelines to localities on COVID-19 vaccination as part of efforts to allow students to return to school, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen said at a press conference following the Government's regular press conference for October.

Tuyen said that along with releasing a decision on COVID-19 vaccination instructions, the ministry has published on the national vaccination portal the detailed guidelines and directions to ensure safety of vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination in particular.

Regarding the possibility of allowing students back to school, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that to date, 21 cities and provinces have reopened schools, while 18 combined online and direct learning, and 24 others have applied online learning through the Internet and television.

In localities with large numbers of students like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, plans on resuming learning activities at schools have been made, but the decision will be made by the localities themselves, he said.

Son said that on November 1, the Minister of Education and Training had a working session with the Minister of Health, during which they agreed that allowing pupils and students to return to school is a legitimate demand to ensure the quality of teaching and learning activities as well as students' psychological health.

The two ministers agreed to organise an online conference early next month with the Departments of Health and Education and Training in all cities, provinces and districts to seek measures to ensure safety for students when direct teaching and learning activities are resumed. The Ministry of Education and Training has requested localities and the Ministry of Health to make plans to vaccinate students, especially those aging 12-18 years old, against COVID-19 as soon as possible, said Son.
