Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has worked closely with the company and relevant government agencies to address this issue.
The explosion of a pipeline transporting aluminum has resulted in the loss of over nine cubic metres of aluminum. Acid from the mixture in the pipeline has been absorbed into the surrounding soil and has also been carried by rainwater through wastepipe No.3, according to a report released by the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Co. Ltd. (Vinacomin). The factory has dealt with the spillage in a timely manner and prevented a more widespread spill.
"This incident occurred when our workers were not used to new measures being applied and hence did not respond fast enough to the alert. This is an important lesson for us", said Nguyen Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of Vinacomin.
After the incident, local authorities immediately requested that the company implement measures to guarantee the protection of the environmental. Nhan Co Aluminum has been asked to keep the public informed of progress.
This incident has raised deep concerns about environmental protection. The government has pushed for stronger assessments of construction projects and asked all relevant ministries to get involved.
