VTV.vn - As the third most populous country in Southeast Asia, with 60 percent of people aged 15 to 60, Vietnam is fast becoming an attractive market for foreign investors.

The country is the third most attractive consumer market in Asia, after India and Indonesia. Retail and consumer goods sectors are expected to see increased FDI flow in the coming time. |

According to a survey by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Vietnam ranks first among ASEAN countries in FDI attractiveness. According to Robert Trần, CEO of Robenny Corporation, Vietnam has become more appealing to American investors, especially small- and medium-sized firms.

"Companies contact us every day for strategic consultations. They look to us as a bridge to reach the Vietnamese market. They are interested in agro-produce, household appliances, finance and education." - Robert Tran, CEO, Robenny Corporation.

Consumer goods in general and textile products in particular have recently emerged as potential markets. For a long time, many global brands have had a presence in Vietnam. This Philippines-based fashion group has opened a number of stores and developed a strong distribution network in the country.

"Retail, foods, and processed agro-produce are drawing attention from foreign investors. A new trend is emerging: foreign investors choose Vietnam as their production base, as well as consumer market." - Richard Penalosa, Country Director, Golden ABC Inc., Philipines.

"Enterprises currently operating in neighboring countries such as Thailand choose Vietnam as their supplier. If they find Vietnam more attractive, they also choose it as their consumer market." - Robert Tran, CEO, Robenny Corporation.

Earlier this year, many big names, such as Netflix, an American provider of on-demand Internet streaming media, and Thailand’s Singha Asia, announced their investments in Vietnam.  7-Eleven, an international chain of convenience stores, is working to open its first store in Vietnam in 2017.
