VTV.vn - At 6 o'clock this morning, the national flag was flown at half-mast at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi with a black ribbon tied to it.

The flag-raising ceremony signaled the start of the 2-day National mourning for former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Do Muoi.

Former general secretary Đỗ Mười was an outstanding student of President Ho Chi Minh. He devoted his life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the people of Vietnam.

The national flag attached to a black ribbon will be hanged throughout the national mourning.

All public entertainment and sporting events across the country will be suspended.
