A major issue raised at the event was the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations on raising fishing ports’ role in fishery management, particularly in origin tracing. Fishermen have to install equipment to monitor their trips and to record fishing activities. The fishing ports will be responsible for collecting the fishing data from fishermen, statistics on quantities of seafood to dock, and carry out traceability procedures. The fishing ports also have the right to refuse loading and unloading of products from illegal fishing vessels, as well as to notify authorities for handling according to regulations.
