VTV.vn - Nguyen Thanh Liem, Director of the Stem Cell and Gene Technology Institute of Vinmec Times City International Hospital, has become the first Vietnamese doctor to receive the 2018 Nikkei Asia Prize in the science and technology category.
The doctor was awarded at a ceremony in Tokyo on June 13 in recognition for his work in advancing health care for children. In 2014, Liem became one of the pioneers in using stem cell transplants to treat serious disorders such as cerebral palsy.
The prize was created in 1996 to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to society in the three fields of economy, science and culture.
