Vietnamese lychee and longan, in order to be able to enter large markets such as the US or Australia, have to satisfy requirements on food hygiene. The fruits must be irradiated to control insects before they are shipped abroad. Most radiation centers are located in the south, but lychee and longan are grown in the North. Related ministries have decided to upgrade the Hanoi Radiation Center to radiate the fruits for export. It is necessary to install more equipment, depots and cold storehouses. The Center is expected to be put into operation by the end of this year./.
