Jointly held by the Embassy and local authorities, the event is free of charge and open to people of all age groups.
The International Day of Yoga was held in Khanh Hoa Province on June 15, Daklak Province on June 16, Tien Giang Province on June 21, Hanoi City, Can Tho City and Vinh Phuc Province on June 22, and Soc Trang Province on June 23.
It will later take place in HCMC on June 26, Danang City on June 30, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on July 6.
According to the Consulate General of India in HCMC, yoga harmonizes mind and body, as well as thought and action. It also improves one’s health and well-being, and helps eradicate diseases and medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and stress.
The number of people practicing yoga in Vietnam has risen sharply and yoga events such as the International Day of Yoga have contributed greatly to promoting the friendship between Indian and Vietnamese people.
The United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014 passed a proposal by 177 countries, including Vietnam, for the adoption of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
