FDI enterprises in the sector mainly operate in export processing activities, contributing nearly 50% of the sector’s total export turnover. And with the Prime Minister’s recent question of whether Vietnam will become a center for processing and exporting wood products in the world, the role of FDI enterprises must be taken into account.
Overall, the scale of FDI projects in the wood industry is still small compared to other projects in other FDI attracting sectors. In recent times, FDI into the wood industry has been decreasing, with capital invested during the period of 2011 - 2018 at only nearly 60% of the previous decade.
