Fatherland Front continue to call for donations to support COVID-19 fight

VTV.vn - The Vietnamese Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee launched a programme on September 16 to call on organisations and individuals to continue making donations in the joint efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his speech, VFF President Do Van Chien said the fourth COVID-19 outbreak in Vietnam, with its more contagious variant, has put hundreds of thousands in quarantine and forced some areas to impose lockdowns or restrictive measures.

Frontline forces, including health workers, the military, police and local wardens are toiling day and night and encountering great difficulties and grave danger while facing a shortage of personal protective equipment, he said, adding that the pandemic has also aggravated the already difficult lives of many workers, poor households and policy beneficiaries.

The VFF’s programme is expected to motivate Vietnamese people at home and abroad to continue donating money, medical equipment, food and essential goods to support those affected by the pandemic, including poor people, vulnerable people and those in quarantine areas.

The drive is also expected to provide more resources to the government to buy vaccines, ventilators and other medical equipment as well as assistance to quarantine facilities, and boost the morale of frontline workers.

At the launching ceremony, 30 organisations, businesses and individuals registered to donate with a total cash and in-kind funding worth over VND290 billion (US$12.6 million).

Also on the occasion, the VFF launched an online donation system via the address: http://vandongxahoi.mattran.org.vn; in order to make it easier for benefactors to access and support epidemic prevention and control.
