The forum themed “Ngoc Linh Ginseng - Approaching Value Chains in Socio-Economic Development in the Ethnic Minority Region” was co-organised by the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, the UN and the World Bank in Vietnam and other development partners.
Speaking at the forum, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Truong Hoa Binh, emphasised that promoting the rapid and sustainable development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas and narrowing the development gap with other regions is the consistent policy of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam in the cause of socio-economic development.
Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh also stated that the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, the relevant ministries and agencies, especially localities, enterprises and development partners, should continue to research and implement their tasks, including building a system of synchronous policies on ethnic minorities in line with the socio-economic context in the period after 2020.
Sectors at all levels and localities should also pay due attention to the production development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, along with the promotion of value chain approach, as well as encouraging start-ups and innovation among ethnic communities, he noted.
The Deputy PM called on the joint participation of Quang Nam and other localities and businesses to develop Ngoc Linh ginseng, a product that has been recognised as a national product.
At the forum, national and international experts, policy makers and managers also discussed and shared certain contents related to progress in poverty reduction in Vietnam, the sustainable forestry and development opportunities for ethnic minorities and the development strategy of Ngoc Linh ginseng products, among others.
