Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has confirmed that Vietnam will allow workers to establish trade unions outside of the control of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour due to the country’s TPP commitments during the National Assembly’s Q&A session on Wednesday.
The VGCL said the main difference between independent unions and unions under the VGCL would be that the latter also carries out tasks given to them by the Communist Party of Vietnam and the state, while independent unions would not be obliged to follow these.
