The event was held by the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi in co-operation with Animals Asia and the Department of Forest Management in Hanoi. Pupils participating in the competition learned about the alarming situation in terms of the preservation of bears in Vietnam. There are currently over 1,000 bears still being exploited in bile farms in Vietnam. The drawing and colouring of bears pictures is expected to go some way towards raising public awareness, especially among children, of the need to protect bears and to prevent bear bile farming in Vietnam.
