This event marked a milestone in the Vietnamese husbandry industry that would put an end to the reliance on vaccine imports. Each year, Vietnam has paid 20 to 30 million US dollars for foot and mouth disease vaccine imports.
At the event, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development signed documents with three companies to produce the foot and mouth disease vaccine. The three companies are now finalising their infrastructure to do pilot production so that Vietnamese manufactured vaccine would be put on the market soon. It is estimated that each company would be able to produce 50 to 60 million doses at a cheaper price than imported alternatives. This should help farmers to prevent and eradicate the disease in their cattle.
